Churches Together in Hemel Hempstead has a vision for the town of Hemel Hempstead that it will be a supportive, peaceful and generous community that celebrates and enjoys diversity and where everyone feels they belong.
Churches Together in Hemel Hempstead join together to live God’s love with Jesus at their centre inspiring a vibrant spirituality: the role of member churches is to be at the heart of the community, accessible to everyone, bringing about God’s transformation and renewal.
1. Provide a common voice for member churches when engaging with the wider community including the Borough Council and other statutory authorities.
2. Facilitatecommunication between member churches and churches and the wider community
3. Encourage partnership work between churches and churches and the wider community; this includes helping to identify activity that is done better together than separately and encouraging and assisting the delivery of that activity.
4. Support each member church at the heart of community proclaiming by its words and demonstrating by its deeds the love of God.
There are many different Christian churches and denominations in Hemel Hempstead, but all have the same basic calling – to worship God, to share the good news about Jesus Christ and to work for the good of all people. So the churches often need to work together, as well as co-ordinate the work that they each do separately, when they do, they are acting as Churches Together.
Churches have been acting together for many years in Hemel Hempstead. In the 1940’s as the Hemel Hempstead Council of Churches, then as the Hemel Hempstead Christian Council and from about 1990 onwards as Churches Together in Hemel Hempstead.
